Building a Strong Economy
Economic success depends on economic freedom. Wyoming has a strong economic history including Tourism, Agriculture, and Mining/Natural Resources. These industries are particularly important in Park County. As a member of the Ambassadors for the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce, I have participated in welcoming many businesses to our community. As an attorney, I work to support local businesses across a broad array of legal and business concerns. I love seeing our local businesses and economy flourish. As a business-friendly member of the Legislature, I will work to ensure that Wyoming businesses continue to grow through promoting the principles of economic freedom.
Supporting Local Businesses
I believe that the economic success of a town comes from both large employers and small businesses. In recent years, I have seen towns with flourishing main streets and towns struggling to keep retail spaces filled. The main difference between the growing towns and their counterparts is community support for new businesses, ideas, and innovations. Park County has a history of supporting new businesses though their chambers of commerce, start-up challenges, and other associated groups. I joined the Cody chamber of commerce because I believe supporting new and existing businesses is critical to our thriving economy. I look forward to bringing our business-friendly principles to the rest of Wyoming.
Cultivating Wyoming's Economy
On top of having strong Tourism, Agriculture, and Mining/Natural Resources industries, Wyoming has a history of innovative, business-friendly laws. Did you know that Wyoming was the first state to enact laws permitting Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs)? Also, did you know that Wyoming is widely viewed as the friendliest state for blockchain and cryptocurrencies? While we need to support our current industries, Wyoming must look for additional ways to diversify its economy. I believe that the Legislature can and should do more to encourage economic innovation and diversification to attract new businesses and industries to our state.
Retaining Workforce
Wyoming has excellent and talented young adults who have a world of opportunities in front of them. From valuable skills learned through trade schools and apprenticeships to pursuing education in community colleges and at the University of Wyoming, students graduating from Wyoming high schools have excellent options for their future while staying close to home. However, these young people are often attracted to leave their home state for various reasons. I believe Wyoming must do more to attract and retain young people who will benefit from and contribute to our diverse and growing economy.
